Mostly glossy and fluorescent finishes do not print on inkjets, while transparent labels do not print on laser printers.

The printer compatibility is listed next to each of the Media labels. We advise you to have a look at the printer compatibility of your Media labels before printing them otherwise you might waste your sheets of Media labels.

CD/DVD Labels: How to Design, Print and Apply

You wanted to organise your data, music or video cassettes and you purchased some great CD/DVD from 123-Labels but now wondering how you are going to design, print or apply them on to your media? Well…don’t worry…we are here to help you. Follow these simple steps to design, print and apply your CD/DVD conveniently.

Things You Need

1. Printable CD/DVD

2. Microsoft Word

3. Inkjet or Laser printer

4. Media Label Applicator

Steps

1. Design your labels. Designing CD/DVD is a breeze with the free templates available on the 123-Labels website. Download the template designed for your product. Open it with MS Word. Now you can insert your custom text, shapes, favourite clip art or images just like you do in any MS Word document.

You can format the text colour, size and font to give your CD/DVD a more personalized look. Or you can insert an album cover or movie artwork downloaded from the internet.

2. Print your labels. You can choose from a variety of CD/DVD available here in different sizes. Once you have the label sheets with you, load them in to your printer. Load a single sheet if you want to print just a single copy. Click the print button after you have reviewed your design.

3. Apply your labels. Applying CD/DVD is very easy with a label applicator that can be found easily online. Once you have printed your media label, you are ready to apply it to your media. Place your media with its reflective side down into the label applicator. Peel off the media label and place it in the other side of the label applicator with adhesive side facing you. Now close the applicator and press it.

Tips & Warnings

Spend some time while designing your CD/DVD to design the ones that reflects your personality or business.

While printing your CD/DVD, first print a test page to see if your design is appropriate and avoid wasting printer ink and labels sheets.

Press the applicator gently when applying your CD/DVD. Otherwise you might end up damaging your media.

How to Print CD/DVD labels

Printing CD/DVD labels with an inkjet or laser printer is simple. While it is important to follow copyright laws, it is perfectly legal to create a back-up of a CD or DVD cover that you already own.

1. Buy your choice of blank printable CD/DVD labels. You can find blank, printable CD/DVD labels of your choice easily from the options available at 123-Labels.

2. Download one of the templates into your preferred editing software. 123-Labels provide free templates in Microsoft Word or PDF format. Use Word or other software to copy and paste your text and images into the template for an individual label. You can speed this up by simply group the text boxes and images as a single item (click on the items holding the shift key then click edit/group or ungroup)

3. Put the blank CD/DVD labels into the printer’s paper feed.

a. Turn your printer on and wait for it to stop moving. Prepare your CD/DVD labels; they should all face the same direction and be lined up like a deck of cards. Fan through the stack quickly to make sure the pages aren’t stuck together and then line them up.

b. Set the correct paper thickness. Most printers have different settings for paper thickness. Refer to your printer’s manual to see which setting you should use.

c. Adjust the moveable paper guide on the feed tray. You may have to squeeze the guide to move it. Slide it to a position that will accommodate your CD/DVD labels.

d. Place your CD/DVD labels in the feed tray. Look for arrows or text indicating the top of the label sheet. Set a stack of CD/DVD labels between the paper guides so the top loads in first. The front of the sheet should be facing you. Adjust the paper guide as necessary.

e. Choose your printer settings. Before you print, you should have the option to enter page setup or printer properties. Ensure that your printer is ready to print on labels. Some drivers have special presets for printing on CD/DVD labels.

4. Click “Print.” Your software will probably ask you about your blank CD/DVD labels. Input the product information to get a properly lined up label. Your CD/DVD labels should now print on your inkjet or laser printer.

5. Carefully peel the new label off the backing and apply it to the CD or DVD. Because your CD/DVD labels have adhesive backing, you only get one shot to apply it, so be careful and take your time.

6. Firmly press the label to the CD or DVD. Examine it to be certain that you have lined it up properly. If it is not lined up and paper hangs over the edge, you could damage your CD or DVD player.
